The iNTEGRITY Integrated SmartRail System

Integrity’s™ unique SmartRail™ System, the envy of the industry, delivers unrivaled strength, beauty and versatility. Greater strength is achieved by combining multiple structural rib supports with up to 20% more aluminum. The rib supports also help eliminate fence rattle by keeping pickets securely in place. Rail sagging is virtually eliminated because interior ribs are not compromised by the top wall picket punch. So SmartRail™ can be punched for maximum panel rackabilty, making fence installation possible even on very steep grades! Factory-notched at each end, SmartRail™ glides into a punched post at just the right distance each time, stopping in position for quick and easy fastening. With all of this attention to structural integrity, you might expect that aesthetics were thrown to the wind. Think again! SmartRail’s™ enhanced exterior detail, with its beautiful curves in all the right places, is stunningly attractive! An engineering feat, the incredibly versatile SmartRail™ System also converts into a concealed fastener system and is the structural genius of our Encore!™ Hand Railing product line!

SmartRail™

Integrity™ fences are constructed using one of three sizes (grades) of horizontal rail using the below listed configurations. This ”smart” railing is available for purchase independent of panels in one foot length increments ranging from 1′ to 8′ in the following ways:

  • blank (unpunched)
  • punched for standard picket spacing
  • punched for Extreme™ picket spacing
  • punched Xtra-Rack™ for moderate grade slope
  • punched Max-Rack™ for severe grade slope

Each of the above options is available in all grades with the size of the rail, the size of the punch, and the spacing between punches determined by the chosen grade. SmartRail™ can also be purchased for any Concealed Fastener System (CFS) such as Don Phillips™ fence panels or Encore!™ hand railing. Additionally, SmartRail™ is available in any of our standard colors and comes with rail ends factory-notched unless otherwise indicated. Note: When ordered punched Extreme™, SmartRail™ can be punched Xtra-Rack™ but not MaxRack™.

SuperRail™ Concealed Fastener System (CFS)

All Integrity Aluminum Products™ fences use stainless steel fasteners to secure the vertical pickets to the horizontal rails on one side of the fence panel. Powder coated to match the fence, this system is the surest way to secure pickets and minimize fence “rattle.” Now, we offer the option to conceal these fasteners and make your fence even more durable! The unique SuperRail™ system doubles the horizontal rails, hiding the fasteners while adding incredible strength. It also closes off the bottom of the horizontal rails, making the panels virtually insect-free! Choose any style in any collection (Resort, Classic, Premier, and Ultimate) and convert it into The SuperRail™ Concealed Fastener System (CFS). CFS panels come factory-assembled. This optional feature cannot be added to previously built panels.

Stationary Rail Mounting Brackets

This is what you need when a fence panel is being attached directly to a structure such as a pillar or building without the use of a punched post. When necessary, though, they can also be attached to posts. These brackets are available in sizes to fit the horizontal SmartRail™ of any Integrity™ fence grade. Stationary rail mounting brackets are used for ”straight-on” attachments. Angled attachments require adjustable rail mounting brackets (see below). Rail mounting brackets are sold separately in any of our standard Integrity™ colors. Please specify color, type and grade when ordering.

Vertically Adjustable Rail Mounting Brackets

For significant (up-and-down) slopes, these vertically adjustable brackets make it easy to mount Integrity™ Xtra-Rack™ or Max-Rack™ fence panels to blank (not pre-punched) fence posts or structures such as pillars or buildings. These brackets are available to fit the railing of any Integrity™ fence grade and sold separately in any of our standard Integrity™ colors. Please specify color and grade when ordering.

Horizontally Adjustable Rail Mounting Brackets

For sharp (left-to-right) 45 degree angled turns, these horizontally adjustable brackets make it easy to mount standard fence panels to Integrity™ fence posts or structures such as pillars or buildings. These brackets are available to fit the railing of any Integrity™ fence grade and sold separately in any of our standard Integrity™ colors. Please specify color and grade when ordering.

Rail Clipper

Also called a ”rail end notcher”, this tool is used to “notch” the ends of the horizontal SmartRail™ of an Integrity™ fence, allowing it to slide into the narrower punched holes of a post. Since horizontal rails come factory-notched, this tool has limited use for do-it-yourself installation and is most often used by high volume contractors who cut and ”re-notch” horizontal railing on-the-job. Comes standard for residential grade notching, commercial grade conversion kits are sold separately.

Encore!™ Top Rail

Any of the four Encore!™ hand railing top rail design profiles can be purchased separately by-the-foot in one-foot increments up to 10′ long. This top rail is designed as a concealed fastener system (CFS), with the outer profile snapped together with an inverted Premier™ grade horizontal SmartRail™. Sold together as a unit here, either component can be quoted separately upon request. Available in any of our standard colors. Visit our Encore!™ link for more information.

Encore!™ Lower Rail

The lower rail of any Integrity Encore!™ hand railing panel is actually Premier™ grade SuperRail™ Concealed Fastener System (CFS) and can be ordered separately by-the-foot.

Encore!™ Rail Mounting Brackets

Integrity Encore!™ hand railing panels are installed by being attached to blank posts using mounting brackets. These rail mounting brackets are unique and not interchangeable with our fence rail mounting brackets. Based on your requirements, order any of the following types in any of our standard Integrity™ colors:

Encore!™ Top Rail Brackets with or without Tabs*

  • stationary top rail mounting bracket
  • horizontally adjustable top rail mounting bracket
  • vertically adjustable top rail mounting bracket

Encore!™ Lower Rail Brackets with or without Tabs*

  • stationary lower rail mounting bracket
  • horizontally adjustable lower rail mounting bracket
  • vertically adjustable lower rail mounting bracket

*When ordering mounting brackets for the top rail, you must indicate the top rail design profile. Also, when ordering any Encore!™ rail mounting bracket, you must specify ”with tabs” or ”without tabs”. Visit our Encore!™ link for more information.

Aluminum Fences | DIY Project Tips for Success from iFence

On this page, we offer a brief overview of challenges that may need to be addressed before embarking on a DIY fencing project. Some helpful tips are also presented to spark your creativity, but we don’t go into the fine details and planning of your overall landscaping. That we leave to you and the professionals who may share with us the privilege of serving you.

Unobstructed View

The best attribute of Integrity™ aluminum fences is that your view is not obstructed by the fence. This means you can easily keep an eye on the pool area. Beyond your yard there may be a beautiful lake, a wooded area, or just wild flowers. Integrity™ aluminum fences let you continue to enjoy your surroundings with minimal obstruction, especially when ordered in bronze or black. When privacy is important, we recommend landscaping with natural foliage as a barrier on either side of your Integrity™ fence. Most local codes do not permit privacy fences taller than 6′, which means you’ll be boxed in while others from a distance may still be able to look in. Take a look at our extensive photo gallery and then ask yourself, ”How could a big tall plastic wall be this attractive?”

Keep Fence Clear of Objects or Grade Inclines

Always remember that when a pool is involved, fences are subject to more restrictions for the safety of children. Please take the time to review our pool safety link. Integrity Aluminum Products™ places a high priority on safety and we want you to be aware of potential hazards for children. For instance, keeping fences a safe distance away from objects outside the pool area such as air conditioner units is addressed by the BOCA pool safety code and is almost universally enforced by inspectors. This is a good idea for the protection of children. When retaining walls are involved and it is not possible to maintain adequate clearance from the incline, consider installing your fence on the high ground! All of our Resort Collection™ pool fences comply with the rigid safety standards of BOCA!*

How Wide Should A Walkway Be?

When planning your walkway, keep in mind that the gate needs to be wide enough so that you are able to install the gate posts on each side of the concrete, therefore, we recommend leaving yourself a little extra space. For instance, if you are going to have a 48′ wide gate, an ideal limit for the width of your walkway is 45”. Pavers can be more forgiving, but it’s still better to plan ahead, as shown. Usually, the fence is ordered in advance of the installation of the concrete, so you’ll want to go over this point with the concrete installers. Don’t assume anything! Talking about these details with your concrete professional will ensure the success of your project! One last thing, when hugging the concrete with your fence, there is a key point to remember. Often, when the concrete is angled and not square with the gate, the gate itself needs to be made wider to span the distance! This issue is resolved in one of three ways, by narrowing the walkway, by widening the gate, or installing the gate square with the concrete and then angling the adjacent fencing. Advise your contractor of your decision! Of course, at times mounting posts directly onto concrete will be necessary. Our FAQ link addresses these circumstances and the best way to plan for success!

Remember the Landing!

If there are steps leading up to your gate, there should (and often must) be an adequate landing otherwise it becomes awkward to open the gate. A person must have plenty of room to maneuver when opening the gate. This issue, if not addressed early enough, may result in a costly reworking of landscaping, including retaining walls. Or, as pictured here, a reluctant angling inward with some concrete coring in order to create a landing space. Though not as initially conceived, the homeowner was able to avoid serious aesthetic compromise.

Consider a Rounded Configuration

Curved fencing layouts can be gorgeous! And Integrity™ aluminum fences will flow with these curves quite well! You do not have to lock yourself into a rectangular pattern. As Integrity™ fence panels are being installed, they can be shifted directionally. While the panels themselves are not rounded or bent, the cumulative effect of this slight adjustment at each post creates a rounded effect. The curve appeal shown here is very effective, don’t you think?

When Attaching to Pillars

Pillars are a lovely way to achieve a stately look, and they work well with Integrity™ aluminum fences. There are two ways to terminate a fence run up against a pillar. First, an end post can be installed butted up to the pillar, as shown. If this is the look that you’re seeking, be sure the foundation of the pillar does not protrude beyond the outer plane of the pillar. Otherwise, you will not be able to install the post close enough to the pillar. You may have to cut the post to just below grade, and then attach it directly to the pillar. Or, if you prefer, you can eliminate the post altogether and use rail mounting brackets, as shown. Regardless of your chosen method, we recommend that the height of the pillar always be approximately 6 inches higher than your fence, not including the capstone. Why? Integrity™ cuts no corners. All fence panels are actually the height we say they are, not an approximate!

How Tall Should A Pillar Be?

What should be your pillar height for a 54” fence, as an example? First, your fence will likely be installed two inches off grade. We just inched up to 56” (from grade to the top of the fence panel). But we’re not done with the math yet! The top of the post is always one inch higher than the top of the panel, and the standard post cap adds another 3/4”. Now, we are at nearly 58” off grade. In this scenario we recommend a 60” to 62” pillar height not including the capstone, taller still if you intend to use ball caps! Of course, if you are using rail mounting brackets and a post is not being butted up to the pillar, you may have some wiggle room. But remember, if your pillar is too short (as shown), aesthetics have been compromised in two ways. First, a pillar shorter than the fence has the look and feel of a mistake. Second, the fence cannot be butted up to the pillar without making unsightly cuts into the capstone which is generally extended beyond the planes of the pillar!

What About Sudden Changes in Grade?

Retaining walls are often necessary due to unavoidable sudden changes in grade. When planned correctly, these conditions will add to the landscape’s beauty. Where the Integrity™ fence will be installed is where we can offer advice. First, when possible, try to install the fence on the high ground. Occasionally, it is necessary to ”hop over” a retaining wall, as shown. In this case, you’ll end up using Max-Rack™ panels and possibly custom protruding pickets, as shown. If the retaining wall is more of a wall, as in suddenly stepping the grade up, this usually requires stepping the fence, also as shown. Either way, we will advise a cost-effective custom solution.

When Pavers Are Involved

When fencing is installed through an area to be paved, as shown, pavers are much more forgiving than concrete. In other words, even after they have been installed, a few can be extracted so that a fence post can be installed. Afterwards, with a little cutting, they can be reinserted. As always, plan ahead so that the fence is installed before the pavers go in. One last note, if the walkway is to be a paver walkway, remember to account for the paver edging when determining the size of your gate opening. You will want to install your gate without disturbing the edging structure or you will end up with shifting pavers down the road!

Guide to Installing Aluminum Fencing

An aluminum residential fence is a galvanized fence system with a hard wearing powder coat finish. An aluminum residential fence is designed to add value to residential homes. A selection of styles and colors are available to complement any home and landscape environment. Aluminum fence is engineered for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes.  Quality aluminum fences provide the level of quality and resilience consumers expect out.

Several companies offer aluminum residential fencing online.   One of the benefits that is received from choosing aluminum is that the panels have a powder coat finish that has been specially formulated for durability, with ultra-violet inhibitors to endure the elements. This installment will serve as an installation guide.

Check Neighborhood Rules and Regulations

It’s better to check neighborhood rules and local regulations before ordering and installing your new aluminum fence.  It is crucial that you make sure if you are allowed to install the type of fencing you are looking at otherwise you will be throwing money away. If you build one without considering the rules it is likely you will be required to dismantle it. If in any case you are told that you do need a permit to install a fence ignore that advice!  It’s better to get one before starting any construction process to avoid hiccups down the road.

Decide the Location

When you have checked the rules and regulations and obtained the necessary permits the preparation for the installation of the fence can begin. You have to ascertain your corner and end stakes locations first since they make the foundation of the entire layout and have to be predetermined. Mark out the fence with wooden stakes and run a string along them to mark the line of the fence.   You can then show the end post positions and “on center” corner. Then pinpoint your intermediate postings.

Dig Holes

The holes for the fence posts should be dug to 24 inches by 18 inches round holes. Gate posts must be set in larger and deeper footings because they are subjected to great force on a regular basis.

Place Your Posts

Place your posts into their holes, one after the other. Then place an aluminum fence panel on the ground between every two posts as you move along,.  This will help you to make sure that the posts are set at the proper interval.  If your panels are not available yet find a piece of wood that is the same size as they will be and use that as a guide to help in visualizing the correct fit.

When placing your posts, use fast-setting concrete to fill up the hole to about 4″ below the edge. This will provide adequate space to spread dirt on the concrete and cover it up later. Use a magnetic spirit level to measure and level all the posts.

Check The Installed Posts

Go back to your previously installed posts to check that they are plumb and level.  Straighten them if necessary before the concrete is completely set. Repeat this all the time so that the concrete does not set with posts that are neither plumb nor level.

Install Aluminum Fence Panels

When the concrete is set and dry, put the aluminum panels one after the other. This process is quick because installation only requires the nuts, screws, and bolts that fencing company provides. At this stage, you will be able to see the form and shape of your aluminum fence.  When all parts of the aluminum fence are installed, install the aluminum fence gates to completely surround your home; after which you can invite your friends over to admire your new aluminum fence!

Is Aluminum Fencing Right for your Landscape?

Privacy and security are two of the most common reasons many people opt to get a professionally installed fence.  Not only do they give homeowners a true sense of home that we desire, they play a key role in a home’s exterior design. Before purchasing a fence and having it installed a homeowner needs to make an informed decision on the type of fence that serves the needs of the yard, family, and lifestyle. They must also take maintenance and cost into account and investigate neighborhood restrictions.

There are many types of fences made from various materials including: aluminum, wood, PCV, wrought iron, vinyl, chain link, bamboo, and more. When looking at what type of material you are interested in for your new fence keep in mind the cost, maintenance, safety, curb appeal, and how well it will contain pets and small children.  Another thing to consider is how the fencing material matches the property it is to be installed on.  For instance, a simple home, a business property, a school, a hospital would better be matched with aluminum fencing that is commercial or industrial grade.

Advantages of Aluminum Fencing for Your Landscape

Aluminum fences are the most basic and attractive types of fences.  It can be ordered in a number of sized panels, posts of varying heights, including flat-topped or spiked-topped decorative details, thus making aluminum fencing ideal for both confinement and aesthetic purposes.

Aluminum fencing adds a lot of definition and curb appeal to your home landscape and are practically maintenance-free which is a plus for homeowners who do not have time for detailed fencing maintenance. Aluminum fences have many benefits that should be considered when deciding on a new fence.

Here are more advantages to consider:

  • An aluminum fence is very easy to install and require no special tools. It is a stress-free way to make your landscape look like a million dollars.
  • Aluminum fencing fits perfectly with the form of your landscape, whether it slopes or rises without worrying about having uneven gaps or transitions on your fence.
  • Aluminum fences can be designed not to obstruct the view by using the panels or posts of varying heights.
  • The powder coating used on the finish of aluminum fencing doesn’t fade quickly, prevents scratches, and is durable.
  • Aluminum fences do not rust or deteriorate and will last longer compared to other fencing materials. Most are backed by a lifetime warranty.
  • A professionally installed aluminum fence is very difficult to penetrate and not easily cut for security purposes. This is due to the picket design, which makes it difficult to climb. Thus creating the ultimate safety for the home and family.
  • Aluminum fences are very strong and provide an excellent windbreak. This gives homeowners protection from strong gusts especially if they live in an open or sparsely populated area or around trees. Aluminum protects loose property within the yard from being blown around and prevents outside property from being blown into the yard.
  • For such a sturdy fence, aluminum fencing is a great investment for the property and will greatly increase the resale value of the home for all of the reasons given above.

iFenceUSA offers the widest variety of maintenance-free, no-rust aluminum fences and gates in the industry! When looking into the different grades of aluminum fence available you will find that residential aluminum fence panels are the lightest in weight with the weight of the fencing increasing along with the grade.  Thus industrial aluminum fencing is the heaviest option in aluminum fencing.  Commercial aluminum fencing is most often used in heavier traffic areas such as hospitals, schools, retail centers, hotels, and areas where the gates and fence itself will see a lot of use.  The rails and pickets on commercial grade aluminum fencing are often larger and have increased internal supports.

Aluminum fencing is never short when it comes to amazing homeowners.  Not only can you choose from four different grades but also an abundance of colors, decorative options, heights and styles.  Here we will look at a number of the benefits offered with aluminum fencing in greater detail.

Aluminum fence panels and gates come in a wide range of colors to compliment any exterior.  Black is the most commonly chosen option but natural, earth tones and brighter colors to define a space are starting to become popular options for homeowners seeking something different.  Aluminum fencing in all colors is powder-coated which prevents the fence from flaking or peeling overtime.

The gap between the pickets in most residential aluminum fence panels is 3-13/16”.  Some styles have double picket options.  Many residential styles can be ordered with flat tops, spears or decorative styles to increase the look of your fence.  Ornamental scrolls and rings add a certain appeal to many homeowners looking to make a statement within their landscape using aluminum fencing.

Homeowners with dogs may chose puppy pickets or a dog panel on the bottom of the fence.  This makes the fencing unable to be crawled under.  Other options in fencing move the bottom rail down to avoid giving a dog that likes to jump fencing an extra boost.  Check into the available options to keep your pet safe when choosing aluminum fencing.

There are so many different options when it comes to customizing your aluminum fencing.  There is never a reason to settle for a fence you only like when you are buying aluminum.  Customize the aluminum fence to fit your homes unique style and enhance your curb appeal.

Or, you may want to order adornments for your gate such as Butterfly Scrolls or an Estate Scroll. For wider gates, a welded U-Frame is an important option to consider.
