Guide to Installing Aluminum Fencing

An aluminum residential fence is a galvanized fence system with a hard wearing powder coat finish. An aluminum residential fence is designed to add value to residential homes. A selection of styles and colors are available to complement any home and landscape environment. Aluminum fence is engineered for residential, commercial, and industrial purposes.  Quality aluminum fences provide the level of quality and resilience consumers expect out.

Several companies offer aluminum residential fencing online.   One of the benefits that is received from choosing aluminum is that the panels have a powder coat finish that has been specially formulated for durability, with ultra-violet inhibitors to endure the elements. This installment will serve as an installation guide.

Check Neighborhood Rules and Regulations

It’s better to check neighborhood rules and local regulations before ordering and installing your new aluminum fence.  It is crucial that you make sure if you are allowed to install the type of fencing you are looking at otherwise you will be throwing money away. If you build one without considering the rules it is likely you will be required to dismantle it. If in any case you are told that you do need a permit to install a fence ignore that advice!  It’s better to get one before starting any construction process to avoid hiccups down the road.

Decide the Location

When you have checked the rules and regulations and obtained the necessary permits the preparation for the installation of the fence can begin. You have to ascertain your corner and end stakes locations first since they make the foundation of the entire layout and have to be predetermined. Mark out the fence with wooden stakes and run a string along them to mark the line of the fence.   You can then show the end post positions and “on center” corner. Then pinpoint your intermediate postings.

Dig Holes

The holes for the fence posts should be dug to 24 inches by 18 inches round holes. Gate posts must be set in larger and deeper footings because they are subjected to great force on a regular basis.

Place Your Posts

Place your posts into their holes, one after the other. Then place an aluminum fence panel on the ground between every two posts as you move along,.  This will help you to make sure that the posts are set at the proper interval.  If your panels are not available yet find a piece of wood that is the same size as they will be and use that as a guide to help in visualizing the correct fit.

When placing your posts, use fast-setting concrete to fill up the hole to about 4″ below the edge. This will provide adequate space to spread dirt on the concrete and cover it up later. Use a magnetic spirit level to measure and level all the posts.

Check The Installed Posts

Go back to your previously installed posts to check that they are plumb and level.  Straighten them if necessary before the concrete is completely set. Repeat this all the time so that the concrete does not set with posts that are neither plumb nor level.

Install Aluminum Fence Panels

When the concrete is set and dry, put the aluminum panels one after the other. This process is quick because installation only requires the nuts, screws, and bolts that fencing company provides. At this stage, you will be able to see the form and shape of your aluminum fence.  When all parts of the aluminum fence are installed, install the aluminum fence gates to completely surround your home; after which you can invite your friends over to admire your new aluminum fence!

Is Aluminum Fencing Right for your Landscape?

Privacy and security are two of the most common reasons many people opt to get a professionally installed fence.  Not only do they give homeowners a true sense of home that we desire, they play a key role in a home’s exterior design. Before purchasing a fence and having it installed a homeowner needs to make an informed decision on the type of fence that serves the needs of the yard, family, and lifestyle. They must also take maintenance and cost into account and investigate neighborhood restrictions.

There are many types of fences made from various materials including: aluminum, wood, PCV, wrought iron, vinyl, chain link, bamboo, and more. When looking at what type of material you are interested in for your new fence keep in mind the cost, maintenance, safety, curb appeal, and how well it will contain pets and small children.  Another thing to consider is how the fencing material matches the property it is to be installed on.  For instance, a simple home, a business property, a school, a hospital would better be matched with aluminum fencing that is commercial or industrial grade.

Advantages of Aluminum Fencing for Your Landscape

Aluminum fences are the most basic and attractive types of fences.  It can be ordered in a number of sized panels, posts of varying heights, including flat-topped or spiked-topped decorative details, thus making aluminum fencing ideal for both confinement and aesthetic purposes.

Aluminum fencing adds a lot of definition and curb appeal to your home landscape and are practically maintenance-free which is a plus for homeowners who do not have time for detailed fencing maintenance. Aluminum fences have many benefits that should be considered when deciding on a new fence.

Here are more advantages to consider:

  • Aluminum fencing fits perfectly with the form of your landscape, whether it slopes or rises without worrying about having uneven gaps or transitions on your fence.
  • Aluminum fences can be designed not to obstruct the view by using the panels or posts of varying heights.
  • The powder coating used on the finish of aluminum fencing doesn’t fade quickly, prevents scratches, and is durable.
  • Aluminum fences do not rust or deteriorate and will last longer compared to other fencing materials. Most are backed by a lifetime warranty.
  • A professionally installed aluminum fence is very difficult to penetrate and not easily cut for security purposes. This is due to the picket design, which makes it difficult to climb. Thus creating the ultimate safety for the home and family.
  • Aluminum fences are very strong and provide an excellent windbreak. This gives homeowners protection from strong gusts especially if they live in an open or sparsely populated area or around trees. Aluminum protects loose property within the yard from being blown around and prevents outside property from being blown into the yard.
  • For such a sturdy fence, aluminum fencing is a great investment for the property and will greatly increase the resale value of the home for all of the reasons given above.

Amazing Aluminum Fencing

Most homeowner will be amazed with residential aluminum fence panels.  Homeowners feel more secure and comfortable when aluminum fencing is used to enclose the perimeter of the yard or swimming pool.  When choosing aluminum fencing it is always important to check with local ordinances and your HOA to be certain you choose to install the right grade of aluminum fence.  This is especially true when enclosing a pool that is in ground.  Companies offering aluminum fence for sale often have four grades to choose from including: residential, pool, commercial, and industrial.

When looking into the different grades of aluminum fence available you will find that residential aluminum fence panels are the lightest in weight with the weight of the fencing increasing along with the grade.  Thus industrial aluminum fencing is the heaviest option in aluminum fencing.  Commercial aluminum fencing is most often used in heavier traffic areas such as hospitals, schools, retail centers, hotels, and areas where the gates and fence itself will see a lot of use.  The rails and pickets on commercial grade aluminum fencing are often larger and have increased internal supports.

Aluminum fencing is never short when it comes to amazing homeowners.  Not only can you choose from four different grades but also an abundance of colors, decorative options, heights and styles.  Here we will look at a number of the benefits offered with aluminum fencing in greater detail.

Aluminum fence panels and gates come in a wide range of colors to compliment any exterior.  Black is the most commonly chosen option but natural, earth tones and brighter colors to define a space are starting to become popular options for homeowners seeking something different.  Aluminum fencing in all colors is powder-coated which prevents the fence from flaking or peeling overtime.

The gap between the pickets in most residential aluminum fence panels is 3-13/16”.  Some styles have double picket options.  Many residential styles can be ordered with flat tops, spears or decorative styles to increase the look of your fence.  Ornamental scrolls and rings add a certain appeal to many homeowners looking to make a statement within their landscape using aluminum fencing.

Homeowners with dogs may chose puppy pickets or a dog panel on the bottom of the fence.  This makes the fencing unable to be crawled under.  Other options in fencing move the bottom rail down to avoid giving a dog that likes to jump fencing an extra boost.  Check into the available options to keep your pet safe when choosing aluminum fencing.

There are so many different options when it comes to customizing your aluminum fencing.  There is never a reason to settle for a fence you only like when you are buying aluminum.  Customize the aluminum fence to fit your homes unique style and enhance your curb appeal.
